Hailing from Santa Ana, California, the American violinist, songwriter and dancer grew up taking violin lessons—half lessons, actually. While instructors didn’t believe anyone could learn with only 15 minutes a week, her parents persisted. Back in high school, she joined a rock band, “Stomp on Melvin” where she wrote a solo violin rock song. This helped her win the Arizona Junior Miss title. From then on, she kept her rock-driven grit to perform the strings.
So, when did dancing come into the picture? In an interview with NewMediaRockstars, Stirling shared that she always wanted to learn dance, but her parents made her choose between the strings or those dance shoes. While she dominated AGT with her electrifying pieces that blended hip-hip, pop, and rock with classical strings, her iconic dance moves came later on as she refined her gravity-defying stunts.
Named in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in Music: The Class of 2015, she’s achieved plenty of milestones early on, including hitting #2 on the Billboard 200, selling over 1 million singles, and 11M subscribers on YouTube at the time. Today, she’s got over 3 billion total views—proof that her performances are insanely good.
